HOSUTON, Texas - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2011 State Farm® Coaches' Division I All-America teams on Saturday with Duke's Nolan Smith being named to the first team and Kyle Singler to the second team.
The first team All-America selections were Smith, Jimmer Fredette (BYU), Jajuan Johnson (Purdue), Jared Sullinger (Ohio State) and Kemba Walker (Connecticut). On the second team is Singler, Marcus Morris (Kansas), Derrick Williams (Arizona), Ben Hansbrough (Notre Dame) and Jordan Hamilton (Texas).
Smith, a senior captain from Upper Marlboro, Md., was in Houston to accept his award as he was invited to attend the Final Four as a National Player of the Year finalist. He is Duke's first consensus first team All-America selection since 2006 when both J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams claimed first team honors. This season Smith led the ACC in scoring with 20.6 points per game, the ninth time a Duke player has averaged at least 20.0 points per game under head coach Mike Krzyzewski.
Singler, a senior captain from Medford, Oreg., earned his first All-America honors of the season. He received honorable mention for the Associated Press All-America team last week. Duke's second winningest player averaged 16.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while leading the Blue Devils to a 32-5 record and an ACC Tournament Championship.
Along with his State Farm honor, Singler has been named to the Lowe's Senior Class Award Senior All-America second team. He was a finalist for the Lowe's Senior Class Award.
