The Blue Devils have won 16 straight NCAA Tournament games played in the state of North Carolina and are 32-4 in their home state, including a 10-3 mark in Charlotte.
Duke and Michigan met for the third time in the NCAA Tournament with the Blue Devils now owning a 3-0 record. The Blue Devils also defeated the Wolverines in the 1964 Final Four (91-80) and the 1992 national championship game (71-51).
The Blue Devils have won 22 straight neutral site games dating back to a loss to Villanova in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
The win gives Duke 32 on the season which is tied for the sixth most in a single season in school history. Over the last three seasons the Blue Devils have collected 97 overall victories which ranks third most over a three-year span in school history. They are one of only six programs with three straight 30-win seasons.
It is the 14th time Duke has shot 50 percent or better on the year, winning all 14 games. The Blue Devils have shot 50 percent or better in each of their first two NCAA Tournament games.
Michigan is just the third Duke opponent to shoot 50 percent or better from the field. Duke lost its previous two games when allowing 50 percent, falling to St. John's and North Carolina.
The Blue Devils have outrebounded their opponent in 25 games this year, posting a 24-1 record in those games.
With Duke leading by two points, 39-37, at the 16:38 mark, Duke senior Nolan Smith scored 10 straight points for the Blue Devils as they extended the lead to 49-37 with 14:28 remaining.
During the first half Duke made 10 of its 11 field goal attempts inside the three-point line. For the half Duke shot 59.1 percent, marking the 13th time this season the Blue Devils have shot 50 percent or better in the first half.
Freshman Kyrie Irving has scored in double figures in all 10 games he has played in this season.
Irving made 9-of-10 free throws in the game and is now 56-of-62 (.903) on the year. It is the second time in 10 games that he has shot 10 or more free throws. He was 13-of-16 against Michigan State.
Senior Kyle Singler extended his school records for consecutive games played (147) and career starts (146). His 147 games played is tied for second most in school history with Greg Koubeck and is now one shy of the school record held by Christian Laettner.
Singler became just the ninth player in ACC history and fourth player at Duke to join the club of players who have tallied 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. He recorded his 1,000th career rebound, the seventh Duke player to do so. He moved past Danny Ferry for sixth all-time with 1,007 rebounds.
He passed Bobby Hurley into fifth on Duke's career three-point field goals list and now has 265 career treys.
With his 13 points he has scored 600 or more for the third straight season. He is just the third player in school history to score 600 or more in three straight years.
He has scored in double figures in 33 of the 36 games this year and has 128 career games with at least 10 points.
Senior Nolan Smith scored 24 points to lead all scorers. It is the 21st time this season he has scored 20 or more. He has 38 career games of at least 20 points.
Smith recorded double-digit points for the 33rd time in 36 games this season. He has scored 10 or more in 92 career games.
He moved passed Jeff Mullins and Dick Groat into 17th on Duke's career scoring list and now has 1,902 career points.
On the single season list he moved into the top 10 for scoring, passing four players to climb into ninth with 755 points.
With the victory Smith moves into a tie for sixth on the ACC all-time list, recording his 121st win to tie Deon Thompson of North Carolina.
