Duke extended its home court winning streak to 33 games. It is the longest active streak in the NCAA and fourth longest streak in school history. They have won 17 consecutive ACC games in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
This marks the ninth straight season Duke has won at least 14 home games and 18th overall season. Over the last four years, Duke has a 62-2 record at home.
Head coach Mike Krzyzewski improved to 35-35 all-time against North Carolina with a 16-13 record in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Blue Devils earned one point in the Battle of the Blues series presented by Continental Tire. It is a season-long all-sport series between Duke and North Carolina with the winner presented the Continental Tire Cup. North Carolina now leads the competition 10-3.
Duke has won 27 consecutive games played within the state of North Carolina dating back to Jan. 20, 2010.
In the month of February, the Blue Devils have now won 15 consecutive games dating back to an 80-74 loss at Boston College on Feb. 15, 2009.
The comeback win after being down 14 points at halftime ties for the second largest in school history and was the largest for the Blue Devils since 1959 when Duke trailed 32-18 at the break against Navy and came back to win 64-63. It is the 13th time in school history Duke has come back to win after trailing by 10 or more points at the half. The last time was at Miami in 2009 (down 32-19 at the half, won 78-75).
Duke also recorded its largest comeback after halftime in series history, overcoming a 14-point (43-29) deficit after the first half to win 79-73. The largest previous comeback was from 12 down in 1940 (31-19 at half, won 50-44) and in 1998 (42-30 at half, won 77-75). It is just the third time the Blue Devils have overcame a deficit of 10 or more at the half against North Carolina and won.
The Blue Devils scored 50 points in the second half, marking the ninth time this season they have scored 50 or more in the second half.
In the second half, Duke shot 50 percent from the field, giving them 16 games this season with a second half shooting percentage of 50 percent or better.
Duke held North Carolina to just 14.3 percent (2-of-14) from behind the three-point line, including 0-for-6 in the second half. It is the fifth time this season an opponent has shot less than 20 percent from deep against the Blue Devils.
After being outrebounded 27-18 in the first half, the Blue Devils controlled the glass in the second with a 23-20 advantage. The Blue Devils had nine of their 15 offensive rebounds in the second half. Five different Duke players recorded at least five rebounds.
The Blue Devils have had a 20-point scorer in each of the last 19 games. It is the ninth game in which they have had two players with 20 or more.
Sophomore Seth Curry came off the bench to score a career-high 22 points. It is his second career game with 20 or more points as he has reached double figures in scoring in 10 games on the year.
He is just the sixth player under Coach K to score 20 or more points against North Carolina as a reserve. It was the highest total since Luol Deng had 25 points against the Tar Heels on March 6, 2004.
His eight made field goals were two more than his previous season best of six against Boston College.
Curry also matched a season high with six rebounds. He also had six against Virginia.
The five assists give Curry three games this season with five or more with two of those coming in the last three games.
The 35 minutes played was also a season high for Curry, who had only played 30 or more minutes three previous times.
Sophomore Ryan Kelly had three blocks to give him 52 career blocks. He is the 32nd Blue Devil to record at least 50 blocks in a career. It was his 10th game this season with two or more blocks.
Senior Kyle Singler drew his team-leading 92nd consecutive start and has now started in 134 of his 135 career games. The 134 career starts ranks tied for third most on Duke's all-time list with J.J. Redick.
Singler has scored in double figures in 118 career games and 23 of the 24 games this season. His 118 double-digit scoring games ranks tied for third on Duke's all-time list with Mark Alarie and Christian Laettner.
He has been a part of 115 victories at Duke which is now tied for 11th most on Duke's career wins list.
Senior Nolan Smith scored a career-high 34 points and made a career-high 13 field goal attempts. It was his third career 30-point game, all coming this season, and the sixth time this year he has made 10 or more field goals.
The 34 points was the 18th time a Duke player has scored 30 or more points against North Carolina. It has been done by 13 different players. It was the most since J.J. Redick tallied 35 points against UNC in 2006. It is tied for the sixth most points by an individual against North Carolina.
He notched his ACC-leading 14th game with 20 or more points. He has 31 career games with 20 or more and has scored at least 20 in seven of the last eight games.
He reached double figures in scoring for the 23rd time in 24 games this season. He has 82 career games with 10 or more points.
