Bencomo Ranked 16th in InterMat Preseason Poll

DURHAM, N.C.. -Duke University redshirt junior Diego Bencomo will start the 2011-12 wrestling season ranked 16th in the 184-pound division of the InterMartWrestle.com preseason national rankings. Bencomo also was ranked 22nd in the WrestlingReport.com preseason poll.

Bencomo enters the season with a 48-27 career record at 184 pounds. He is coming off of his best season as a Blue Devil as he became the 32nd Duke wrestler to earn a berth in the NCAA Championships and just the second to advance to the NCAA Championships quarterfinal round. The Phoenix native posted a 27-16 overall record last season and earned All-ACC recognition as the runner up at the ACC Championships. He is the highest rated wrestler in the ACC at 184 pounds, edging Virginia's Jon Fausey, who comes in at the No. 17 spot.

The Blue Devils are completing their first week of official practices this week. Duke opens the year on Nov. 6 at the Citadel Open and Hokie Open.
