Duke improved to 24-7 in ACC openers under head coach Mike Krzyzewski with the win over Miami. The Blue Devils have won the conference opener in four straight seasons and in 14 of the last 15 years. Duke is 43-15 all-time in season openers.
With the win over Miami, Duke remained undefeated against the Hurricanes in Cameron Indoor Stadium with a 7-0 record. Since Miami joined the ACC for the 2004-05 season, the Blue Devils have won 10 of the 11 meetings.
The Blue Devils have won 23 straight games dating back to last season and have started 13-0 for the sixth time under Krzyzewski and first time since 2005-06. The 23 consecutive wins are tied for the second most in school history with stretches in 1992 and 1992-93.
Duke extended its home court winning streak to 27 games which ranks as the third longest current streak in the NCAA and tied for fourth longest in school history.
The Blue Devils have scored at least 70 points in all 13 games this season. They improved to 10-0 when a player scored at least 20 points.
Duke shot a season-high .933 (14-of-15) from the free throw line. It is the second time this season they have shot 90 percent or better from the charity stripe.
The Blue Devils held Miami to .176 (3-of-17) from behind the three-point line. It is the third time this year an opponent has shot under 20 percent from beyond the arc.
Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith each played all 40 minutes of the game for the Blue Devils. Duke only played seven players in the game with both Mason Plumlee and Andre Dawkins seeing over 25 minutes of action off the bench.
Senior guard Nolan Smith scored 13 of Duke's final 15 points in the first half, including 13 consecutive points to key a 13-2 run that put the Blue Devils in front 35-22.
Sophomore Andre Dawkins reached double figures in scoring for the ninth time this season to rank third on the team. He has scored 10 or more points in five of the last six games and came off the bench in four of those performances. Eight of his nine double-digit games have come as a reserve.
He made two three-point field goals to give him nine games with two or more.
Dawkins set a career high with four steals. It was his second game this season with three or more steals as he had three against Colgate.
Sophomore Mason Plumlee grabbed 10 rebounds to give him five games this season with 10 or more.
Plumlee also had four blocked shots to give him four games on the year with two or more. He now leads the team with 21 blocks on the season. The four blocks put him over 50 for his career (51).
Senior Kyle Singler drew his team-leading 81st consecutive start and has now started in 123 of his 124 career games. The 123 career starts ranks 10th on Duke's all-time list.
With his 14 points Singler recorded his 107th career double figure scoring game to move him into a tie for ninth most in school history with Gene Banks. He also moved past Shane Battier and Art Heyman on Duke's career scoring list and now ranks 11th with 1,995 career points.
Singler played all 40 minutes to give him 12 career games with 40 or more minutes played. He became the 13th player in school history to log over 4,000 career minutes and has now played a total of 4,022.
Senior Nolan Smith scored a season-high 28 points for his fourth straight game with 20 or more and fifth in the last six games. He has six 20-point games this season and 23 in his career.
Smith recorded his third game this season with at least 20 points, five rebounds and five assists.
It is the fourth straight game he has made at least eight field goals and sixth time this season.
The four three-point field goals were a season high, giving him six games with two or more.
Smith shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line after entering the game with a .735 (50-of-68) percentage.
He has grabbed at least five rebounds in eight games on the year and dished out five or more assists in nine contests.
Smith played all 40 minutes for his sixth career game with 40 minutes played.
