DURHAM, N.C. - Duke stands in fourth place in the latest Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, released earlier today by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. Overall, Duke ranks behind only Stanford (1395), Ohio State (1000.50) and Virginia (949.50). The Directors' Cup rankings measure an athletic program's comprehensive sports success by totaling points based on a team's finish in national competition.
After the previous ranking released in late April, Duke increased its point total to 936.25 – a 366.75 point improvement – in moving from 11th place to fourth place. Duke received points from men's lacrosse (100), which won its first NCAA Championship with a 6-5 overtime victory over Notre Dame on Monday, women's tennis (73), women's golf (69.75), men's tennis (64) and women's lacrosse (60).
Four Atlantic Coast Conference schools are ranked in the top 10 – Virginia (third, 949.50), Duke (fourth, 936.25), North Carolina (fifth, 924.30), and Florida State (ninth, 779.75).
