The Blue Devils will take on Long Island University in the first round with Princeton and Virginia completing the four-team section of the bracket. The winning teams will advance to the second round on May 15.
The reigning national champion, Duke is making its 22nd appearance overall and 21st consecutive in the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils will take on Long Island in the opening round. It will be the first meeting between the Blue Devils and Blackbirds. The Blue Devils are 14-0 in first-round contests since the field was expanded to 64 teams in 1996.
Duke heads into the tournament with a 19-7 overall record and is ranked 10th in the most recent poll. The team most recently fell to Florida State in the ACC Quarterfinal. Three Blue Devils are ranked with junior Reka Zsilinszka leading the way at No. 34. Junior Ellah Nze comes in at No. 47 and senior Elizabeth Plotkin is 81st.
Zsilinszka leads all Blue Devils with a 28-11 overall record and 18-4 mark in dual matches. Freshman Mary Clayton sports a 19-6 mark in dual matches, while both Plotkin and senior Amanda Granson have garnered 18 dual match victories this season. In doubles action, Granson and Nze anchor the top spot with an 11-10 record. Each of Duke's three doubles squads are ranked in the most recent polls.'
Long Island earned its second consecutive bid to the tournament after taking home the Northeast Conference crown. The Blackbirds finished the season with a 14-3 overall record and take a five-match win streak into the NCAA Tournament.
Long Island is led by two-time NEC Player of the Year Selma Babic. Babic went 19-1 in singles play this season, including a 14-1 mark in dual matches at the No. 1 spot. She has won 13 straight matches and was named to the All-NEC First Team at No. 1 singles and the all-conference second team at No. 1 doubles along with freshman Aleksandra Pavlovic. At No. 2, freshman Linn Sjogren compiled a 10-10 mark, going 8-6 in dual matches.
