GREENSBORO, N.C.-Duke University redshirt sophomore Diego Bencomo finished up competition on the second day of the 2010 Southern Scuffle hosted by UNC Greensboro. Bencomo advanced to the quarterfinals after day one with three consecutive victories.
Bencomo, wrestling at 184 pounds, faced his toughest competition of the season to start the action on day two with a match against eighth-ranked Kevin Steinhaus of Wisconsin. The Phoenix native battled hard, but came up short in a 14-6 setback.
In the wrestleback bracket, Bencomo went up against Brice Arand from Oregon State. Having registered falls in each of his previous two matches, Arand continued the trend as he pinned Bencomo in 2:33. Bencomo now sports a 15-9 overall record heading into the dual match season.
The Blue Devils finished 31st overall in the even with 13 points. Duke opens its dual match schedule on Jan. 11, hosting The Citadel at Cameron Indoor Stadium at 6 p.m.
