CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Amanda Robertson and Becci Burling combined for 19 kills, and libero Ali McCurdy played flawless defense to lead Duke past Boston College 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-14) on Friday evening in Power Gym.
Robertson led Duke (22-4, 14-2 ACC) with 10 kills, while Burling added nine on a .571 hitting percentage. McCurdy, who was named ACC Freshman of the Week for the third time on Monday, contributed 14 digs, 21 errorless serve receptions and two service aces in the win.
The win was the fifth straight for the first-place Blue Devils, who hold a one-match lead over second-place North Carolina. The victory was also the fourth straight sweep for Duke, which has not lost a set since Oct. 29 against Clemson.
Duke setter Kellie Catanach, the reigning ACC Player of the Week, dished out 31 assists, giving the 6-foot-2 junior 16 consecutive outings with at least 30 assists. Catanach, who leads the ACC with 11.23 assists per set, also went 4-for-8 attacking with one ace, three digs and a block.
Catanach used Duke's entire offense against the Eagles (8-21, 0-16 ACC), who allowed four Blue Devils to hit .300 or better. Robertson posted a .316 clip on 19 attacks while Catanach and sophomore middle Christiana Gray both hit .375. Duke used every player on the roster in the win, including sophomore Megan Hendrickson who chipped in two kill, two digs and two blocks off the bench.
Duke posted another dominant defensive effort, using six blocks and 42 digs to hold Boston College to a .128 hitting percentage. Gray – Duke's top blocker since Oct. 29 – led the way at the net with four stops while junior outside hitter Sophia Dunworth worked her way in on three.
The Eagles got a strong defensive effort from libero Jillian McAndrews, who dug 20 of Duke's 107 attacks. Outside of her performance, however, Boston College managed only one block and surrendered six Duke service aces. The Eagles, meanwhile, snuck in only one ace against the Blue Devils.
Duke will continue its weekend road trip this Sunday, Nov. 14, against Maryland in College Park, Md., at 2 p.m.
