GAINESVILLE, Fla.-- Greetings from sunny Florida!
The team is in good spirits and well rested after a long day of traveling yesterday. A total of 28 players, four coaches, one trainer and one administrator left the locker room yesterday morning at 6:15 am for an 8:05 am flight to Tampa. From Tampa, we bussed to Ocala, caught our breath, and headed to Gainesville, home of the Florida Gators, for pre-game practice.
Practice was followed by a delicious, buffet-style Italian dinner in Ocala and an early turn-in by all (I can't remember the last time I woke up at 5:30 am!). Full, focused and ready for action, the team is confident about our play and are eager to see the field.
We couldn't have asked for better weather for game day. We are set to kick-off against the Golden Bears of California at 8:30 pm tonight and hope to be here through Sunday to take on the winner of Florida. vs Mercer University, played tonight at 6:00 pm.
This is my and seven other seniors' fourth NCAA Tournament. We know the stakes are high and it's now a one-and-done gig. We were incredibly fortunate to have been sent to Florida - the weather is great and the travel was painless - but today we must focus on the task at hand.
Cal is a very good team from a very good conference and we must play our game for 90 minutes. Our systems of play match up exactly, so I think this will be a game of heart... who wants it more.
Tune in tonight to watch us take on the Golden Bears! It's the most important (and consequential) game we've played all year and I think I speak for the eight seniors when I say we are not ready for our season to be over!
Go Duke!
