Upcoming Event: Men's Basketball versus UCF on October 21, 2025 at 7 p.m.

1/20/2010 11:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Duke Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski
Opening Statement:
"They were terrific and we were not very good. In order to beat them tonight, you had to be terrific just to have a chance. They were really good. They had great energy, a great game plan, and looked real fresh. We didn't look fresh at all, and we just couldn't match their energy. For me that's the story. They played better. Obviously."
On trying to stop Tracy Smith:
"We had trouble with Tracy all night. One, he's very good, and then the things that we planned to do, we never executed. Some of that has to do with just how sharp they were in running some of their things, and some of it has to do with us not being as sharp in our attempt to stop them."
On Duke's defense:
"Our defense was the worst it's been all year. It was never, ever good tonight ... I don't know what that was. Obviously, our big guys weren't on like they were the last two games. Why does that happen? I don't know. But it's not just them. I didn't think that we as a group played at the level we needed to play at."
N.C. State Head Coach Sidney Lowe
Opening Statement:
"That was an outstanding game. I was so happy for our guys. I wasn't worried about the students storming the court, but it was great to see them out there celebrating."
On playing well the entire game:
"That's as close as we've been to playing a 40-minute game. We got stops when we needed to and made free throws in critical situations. We just played great tonight."
On responding to Duke's runs:
"The key for us was to just keep our composure. You knew they were going to make runs. We responded when they made the runs, which was key to us winning."
On defending Tracy Smith one-on-one:
"They play great defense. They decided they weren't going to help when Tracy got the ball. He was patient and picked his shots well. They focused on Scott [Wood]. The other guys stepped up. Javi [Gonzalez] and Dennis [Horner] played great. We took advantage of what was available to us."
On the turning point of the game:
"You need players that can create something on their own against Duke Javi [Gonzalez] and Farnold [Degand] did that tonight."
On his birthday tomorrow:
"I turn 50 tomorrow and this is one of the best birthday presents I've ever received. I thanked the guys."
