DURHAM, N.C.-The Duke University women's tennis team and four student-athletes recently were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for their outstanding work in the classroom. The Blue Devils earned the ITA All-Academic Team award and four players were selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Duke is one of four ACC teams to earn the ITA All-Academic Team award. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20.
Tara Iyer, Melissa Mang, Jessi Robinson and Reka Zsilinszka each earned spots on the scholar-athlete list. To garner ITA Scholar-Athlete honors a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a minimum grade point average of 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at her present school for at least two semesters. Duke is one of three schools in the ACC to have four student-athletes capture the honor.
The Blue Devils captured their first national championship in 2009, beating California 4-0 in the NCAA title match. Under the guidance of head coach Jamie Ashworth, Duke won its 16th ACC Championship and finished the season with a 29-3 record. The 29 victories rank and 18-match win streak to close the season rank second all-time in Duke tennis history.
