Head Coach Jamie Ashworth
On the team's play this weekend heading to Madison, Wis.
“The whole weekend was good. I think our doubles play is getting better, which is key. We have a good enough singles lineup that it's going to be tough for someone to beat us in three singles matches. If we can get our doubles to where we're winning that point, most of the time it's going to put a lot of pressure on the other teams. I really wanted to use the weekend to get a lot of confidence with our doubles play. We have good singles play. I think our doubles is just getting better and better, which is great to see. Mallory [Cecil] and Jess [Robinson] are getting better. Amanda [Granson] and Melissa [Mang] struggled a little bit towards the end of the fall, but they're playing better. I like the teams we have and we'll just see what happens this week, but our goal this weekend was to put ourselves in a position confidence wise with our doubles to go into Madison this weekend.”
On Ellah Nze's comeback after dropping the first set
“She had a tough first set. She did a great job of changing her strategy. She did a great job of being coachable, meaning that we talked about changing a couple things, using the middle of the court a little more and taking away the girl's angles and she did it and stayed with it, which is really impressive. Even the first set that she lost I didn't think it was really 6-1. I kept telling her, you're getting the balls you want, you're getting the shots you want, you just have to execute them. I thought she handled herself well. She didn't get too frustrated and she came out and played a good start to that second set, which kind of took away all of the momentum from the first set. It was the same in the tiebreaker. She stayed aggressive and I told her to stay with it and make the girl come up with shots to beat you and she couldn't do it.”
