DURHAM, N.C. ? Greg Paulus and Brian Zoubek have been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District III first team.
Paulus, a senior from Syracuse, N.Y., earns a spot on the first team for the second straight year. He went on to garner third team Academic All-America last season. This year he has a 3.35 GPA and is on schedule to graduate with a degree in political science. He has played in 21 games with one start on the year. He is averaging 5.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game for the year. He ranks in the top 10 all-time at Duke in three-point field goals (9th, 197), three-point field goal percentage (T-6th, .400) and assists (10th, 454).
Zoubek, a junior from Haddonfield, N.J., receives his first selection to the Academic All-District team. He was an Academic All-ACC pick a year ago. This season he has accumulated a 3.32 GPA and is majoring in history. The 7'1” center has played in 22 games with 17 starts. He is averaging 5.8 points and 4.6 rebounds in just 14.3 minutes per game. He leads the team with 23 blocked shots and ranks second with a .582 (53-of-91) field goal percentage. He is also shooting .815 (22-of-27) from the free throw line.
With his selections to the first team, Paulus and Zoubek are now eligible for Academic All-America recognition. The Academic All-America teams will be released Wednesday, Feb. 25.
