Wrestling Heads to Southern Scuffle

DURHAM, N.C.-The Duke University wrestling team hits the mats for the first time since Dec. 2 when it travels to Greensboro for the annual Southern Scuffle. The Blue Devils will feature 11 wrestlers across six weight divisions in the prestigious event.
Live statistics of the entire tournament can be found by visiting www.GoDuke.com. Tickets are $15 for all sessions for adults and $5 for students from K-12. Children under the age of five are free.
Redshirt senior John Barone headlines the group as the No. 7 seed at 184 pounds. Competing for the first time this season at 184 pounds, Barone is 6-2 overall in 197 pound matches and has garnered two runner-up finishes in tournament action.
Sophomore Peter Terrezza will line up at 125 pounds after missing a couple weeks due to illness. He is 6-3 overall on the year and last competed at the Pembroke Classic on Nov. 14.
Three Blue Devils will vie for the title at 141 pounds. Junior Mike Bell is 8-7 on the year heading into the tournament, while rookie Riley Adamson is 6-5 overall and took sixth at the Pembroke Classic. Freshman Chris Piccolella will be competing for the first time this season.
Junior A.J. Guardado and freshmen Brent Jorge and Dak Adamson will be featured at 149 pounds for the Blue Devils. Guardado is 4-2 overall and last competed at the NC State Open on Nov. 21, while Jorge has been on a tear in his rookie year with an impressive 15-1 mark, including a team-best six falls. Dak also has been outstanding with a 6-1 record and most recently pinned his opponent from Davidson in 35 seconds.
Representing Duke at 165 pounds is redshirt senior Ben Wales with a 4-4 mark on the year. Senior Voris Tejada heads into the 174-pound class with an 8-5 overall record. Rounding out the Blue Devil lineup will be redshirt freshman Diego Bencomo at 184 pounds. Bencomo sports an 11-3 record.
