Seventh-Ranked Duke Hosts 24th-Ranked JMU on Friday...
Seventh-ranked Duke (7-2) will take on its third ranked opponent over the last four contests on Friday as the Blue Devils will host 24th-ranked James Madison (7-0) at 7:00 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Friday's contest will represent Duke's annual Toys for Tots Drive benefitting the Durham Rescue Mission.
Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to the game and place them in the collection bins located in the lobbies and on the concourse of Cameron Indoor Stadium. All proceeds benefit Durham Rescue Mission and their Community Christmas Dinner held Dec. 23rd. Help Duke Athletics bring a smile to a child's face this holiday season with our Toys for Tots campaign. Duke Athletics has been holding its Toys for Tots campaign since the mid 1990s, and Duke fans have brightened the day of hundreds of Durham area youth through this partnership.
The Blue Devils are currently ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press and No. 8 in the ESPN/USA Today Division I Coaches Polls, while James Madison is listed No. 24 in the AP and No. 25 in the Coaches Poll.
Noting Duke...
Duke will take on its fourth ranked opponent of the season against JMU on Friday ... the Blue Devils hold a 326-130 points in the paint advantage on the year.
A Look At James Madison...
James Madison enters Friday with a 7-0 record and moved into the Associated Press top 25 this week at No. 24 in the nation. The Dukes are currently 2-0 this season against the ACC with victories over Virginia Tech (66-59) and Virginia (75-73).
JMU is led by Dawn Evans who is averaging 26.5 points a game, which ranks second nationally. Evans missed the last game with an undisclosed kidney injury. The Dukes are also led by Tarik Hislop (14.0 points and 3.7 rebounds), Sarah Williams (8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds) and Nichelle Glover (7.1 points, 3.9 rebounds).
The Series With James Madison...
Duke and James Madison will meet for the fourth time in school history and the first since March 16, 1996. The last meeting was in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Cameron Indoor Stadium with the Blue Devils notching an 85-53 victory.
Other games came in 1988 and two meetings in 1982. Overall, Duke leads the series with by a 3-1 ledger. This will mark the fourth time Duke and James Madison have faced each other in Cameron Indoor Stadium with the Blue Devils winning the first three contests.
Duke Versus the Colonial Athletic Conference...
Duke owns an all-time record of 37-8 against teams from the Colonial Athletic Conference -- Delaware (1-0), George Mason (3-0), Georgia State (1-1), Hofstra (2-0), James Madison (4-1), UNC Wilmington (7-2), Northeastern (2-0), Old Dominion (7-3), VCU (6-1) and William & Mary (4-0).
The last time the Blue Devils faced a team from the CAA was on Nov. 29, 2006 as the Blue Devils downed Old Dominion, 92-47. The last loss to a CAA squad was on Dec. 7, 1996 against sixth-ranked Old Dominion, 89-77. Duke has won nine straight contests against the Colonial Athletic Conference, which is dating back to the 1999 East Regional Sweet 16 victory versus fifth-ranked Old Dominion.
Storylines/Other Blue Devil Notes...
At Home in Cameron Indoor Stadium...
Duke is riding a 19-game home court winning streak dating back the last three years. During that streak, the Blue Devils have knocked off five ranked opponents -- #3/3 Ohio State, #3/4 Stanford, #9/10 North Carolina, #12/15 Maryland and #14/15 Oklahoma State.
The undefeated season in 2008-09 at home marked only the second unblemished Cameron Indoor Stadium record in school history (2006-07). In three years at Duke, Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie has notched a 27-3 record in Cameron.
In Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke has won 28 out of the last 31 contests, 42 out of the last 45 and 123 out of the last 132 games since 2000-01. The Blue Devils have registered four win streaks of 15 or more since 2003. The 19-game winning streak ranks fifth nationally.
Duke is 4-0 this season at home and are averaging 71.8 points, 43.8 rebounds and hitting 42.4 percent of its field goals. Jasmine Thomas is averaging 19.8 points, 4.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals in Cameron Indoor Stadium this season.
Christmas Off the Bench...
Over the past three games, junior Karima Christmas is averaging 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.0 assists.
Christmas totaled a season-high 16 points, tied a season high with six rebounds, two assists and one assist in a season-high 30 minutes at second-ranked Stanford. She attempted a career-high 18 field goals and six three-pointers.
On the season, Christmas has posted double-digit scoring in four games, including three straight. She is averaging 7.3 points. 4.1 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.4 assists.
