WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Duke's Reid Carleton and Henrique Cunha carried their momentum from a regional title into the ITA National Indoor Championships with a victory in the first round.
The Blue Devils' duo extended their winning streak to nine straight with an 8-4 win over Mike Bennett and Alberto Gonzalez of Auburn-Montgomery on Thursday. Carleton and Cunha are now 15-2 this season and will move on to the quarterfinals where they will play their sixth ranked doubles team of the year.
The Duke pair will take on No. 3 Robert Farah and Steven Johnson of Southern Cal tomorrow at 9 a.m. Farah and Johnson cruised the No. 4 seed and No. 6 team in the country, Wisconsin's Moritz Baumann and Marek Michalicka in the first round.
The winner of the quarterfinal match will play on Saturday at 9 a.m. The tournament is being hosted by Yale University at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
