Blumenherst and Lee Advance To Match Play Of WAPL

ERIN-WIS.-- Duke University golfers Jennie Lee and Amanda Blumenherst each advanced to the match play of the 2008 Women's Amateur Public Links Championship on Tuesday at the 6,178-yard, Par 73 Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wisc.

Lee, who is a native of Henderson, Nev., carded a three-under-par, 70, on Wednesday and finished tied for 14th, individually, with rounds of 81 and 70 for a total of 151. A product of Scottsdale, Ariz., Blumenherst fired 18-hole totals of 75 and 77 for a total of 152, which was tied for 19th.

Defending champion Mina Harigae, who will be a freshman at Duke in 2008-09, was hoping to become the fourth back-to-back WAPL titlist, missed the cut after rounds of 80-81?161. Rising junior Yu Young Lee also missed the cut with rounds of 85 and 76.

Tuesday featured sunny and breezy conditions with Katie Kempter and Lizette Salas each taking medalist honors with a 36-hole total of two-under-par, 144. The Women's Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
