Tulsa, Okla. ? Duke senior David Goulet will square off against the No. 6 seed Robert Farah of Southern California in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles Championships on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. (CT) as the brackets were announced today.
Goulet, a native of Quebec, Canada, will make his first career appearance in the NCAA singles championships. He is currently ranked No. 55 in the latest ITA singles rankings while Farah is ranked No. 6 in the nation. The two players met earlier this season when the Blue Devils traveled to Los Angeles for a dual match with the Trojans on March 17. Both players played in the No. 1 spot in the order but it was Farah coming out on top in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Goulet was No. 48 at the time while Farah was No. 11 in the rankings.
On the season Goulet compiled a record of 18-11 in singles. He played primarily at the No. 1 spot in the lineup with an 8-9 mark while he was 6-1 when playing No. 2. He earned a team-high six victories over ranked opponents throughout the 2007-08 campaign. Two of his victories came over players ranked among the top-20 at the time of the match. He defeated No. 15 Ryan Rowe of Illinois 6-2, 6-3 on Feb. 1 and then followed it up with a 7-6, 6-4 win against No. 11 Brett Helgeson of Notre Dame on Feb. 3.
The singles and doubles championships are being held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. The University of Tulsa is hosting the event with one round of singles per day through Monday, May 26.
