DURHAM, N.C. ? The seventh-ranked Duke women's tennis team posted a commanding 6-1 win over 32nd-ranked Wake Forest on Thursday afternoon at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C., as the Blue Devils improve to 13-3 (6-2 ACC) on the season.
The Demon Deacons fall even at 8-8 (4-3 ACC).
Doubles play saw the Blue Devils come away with all three victories, as the freshman duo of Ellah Nze and Reka Zsilinszka defeated Emilee Malvhey and Aileen Davis, 8-3, at the No. 3 spot before the fifth-ranked Blue Devil tandem of sophomore Amanda Granson and junior Melissa Mang defeated Sasha Kulikova and Sierra Poske, 8-4, at the top position to clinch the point for Duke.
Action at No. 2 saw senior Tory Zawacki and junior Jessi Robinson combine for an 8-7 (7-5) win over Ana Jerman and Christian Tara.
The Blue Devils dominated singles competition, winning four matches in straight sets and five overall.
No. 17 Zsilinszka came away with a win at No. 3 while Robinson posted a 6-0, 6-3 win over Davis at No. 6 before Mang clinched the victory for Duke with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Malvhey at the No. 4 slot.
Granson then defeated Reveche at No. 5, 6-1, 6-3, and No. 15 Nze got past Tara, 6-7, 6-2, 10-4, to increase Duke's advantage to 6-0.
Kulikova then notched the Demon Deacons' only win of the day with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over sophomore Tara Iyer at the top singles position to account for the final score.
Duke will close out its home schedule on Tuesday, April 8 as the Blue Devils host archrival North Carolina. First serve is set for 3 p.m. at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
