DURHAM, N.C. ? Mark Carter, a member of Duke's athletic development office for the past four years, has been named the first Director of the Gridiron Society, announced on Thursday by Associate Director of Athletics
Tom Coffman.
The Gridiron Society, founded in 2000, is a branch of the Iron Dukes focusing on fund-raising for the Blue Devil football program.
"Mark has done a great job in his work with the Iron Dukes and I am excited about him now using his considerable skills and creativity to help us build the Gridiron Society into the best support group in Division I Football," Coffman said.
"I am very excited for this opportunity," Carter said. "I am anxious to begin working with Coach (David) Cutcliffe and his staff as we continue the tradition of the Gridiron Society."
After graduating from the University of Memphis in 2002, Carter spent one year as an intern in Duke's athletic development office. He then worked one year at the University of Tennessee, where he earned a master's degree in sport management in 2004. Carter then returned to Duke and served as both Assistant Director of the Iron Dukes and Associate Director of the Iron Dukes over the past four years.
A native of Fayetteville, Tenn., Carter is married to the former Emily Zweig of Germantown, Tenn.
