BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. ? With 36 holes completed at the Bryan Park National Collegiate, top-ranked Duke continues to lead the team competition at the 6,319-Par 72 Players Course in Browns Summitt, N.C. The Blue Devils own a two-day total of 598 and leads by one stroke over Florida (599).
A day after registering 15 birdies, Duke totaled nine birdies and an eagle on Saturday. The Blue Devils posted an 18-hole total of 304 on day two and now owns a ledger of 598 with one day remaining. Rounding out the top 10 scores are Florida (599), Auburn (604), Furman (605), Arkansas (607), Virginia (607), Wake Forest (608), Michigan State (609), North Carolina (614) and Tennessee (615).
Remaining tied for second was junior Amanda Blumenherst with a 36-hole total of 143, but Arkansas' Stacey Lewis jumped into the individual lead by four strokes after shooting a three-under-par, 69, on Saturday. Lewis owns a total of 139 through two days to lead the individual action, while Blumenherst is tied for second along with Steffi Kirchmeyr of College of Charleston.
A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Blumenherst opened the day with a par and then a birdie on the 491-yard, par five second hole. The reigning two-time National Player of the Year then pared the next two holes before suffering bogies on four straight holes. She made the turn at 39, but came back on the final nine holes to produce eight pars and an eagle on the 498-yard, par five 12th hole.
After turning in a 73 on day one, junior Jennie Lee struggled on Saturday as the Henderson, Nev., product totaled an 80. She moved into a tie for 26th with a 153, after registering seven bogies, one double-bogey, one birdie and nine pars.
Freshman Kim Donovan had a 75 in the second round and is now tied for 35th with a 154. After opening her round with a bogey and double-bogey on the first two holes, Donovan went on to play the next six holes at one-under-par. Over her final 11 holes, she notched two birdies, four bogeys and six pars to shoot a 75.
Senior Jennifer Pandolfi had a 77 and sophomore Alison Whitaker added a 79 on Saturday for the Blue Devils. Pandolfi is tied for 41st with a 155 and Whitaker is tied for 20th with a 79.
Duke will tee off on Sunday in the final round beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.
