Sixth-Ranked Duke Drops 4-3 Decision To 14th-Ranked Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The No. 6 Duke women's tennis team fell to 14th-ranked Miami by way of a narrow 4-3 decision on Friday night at the University of Miami's Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Blue Devils came out strong in doubles play as the freshman duo of Ellah Nze and Reka Zsilinszka posted an 8-1 win over Claudia Wasilewski and Jenna Osborne at the No. 3 spot. Miami, however, would answer with wins at the top two positions to take the doubles point and go ahead, 1-0.
Singles competition saw Duke pull ahead, 2-1, as 17th-ranked Zsilinszka defeated 73rd-ranked Romy Farah, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 and sophomore Amanda Granson defeated Caren Seenauth, 7-6, 6-1, at No. 5.
The Hurricanes responded with a 6-4, 6-3 win over junior Melissa Mang from 104th-ranked Bianca Eichkorn at the No. 4 position to tie the score at two-all and then went ahead, 3-2, as 21st-ranked Laura Vallverdu defeated sophomore Tara Iyer, 7-6, 6-0, at the top spot.
No. 14 Nze got past No. 49 Michaela Kissell, 6-7, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 to knot the score at 3-3, but it was not enough as Claudia Wasilewski posted a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over junior Jessi Robinson at No. 6 to give Miami the 4-3 victory.
With the loss, Duke falls to 11-3 (4-2 ACC), while Miami improves to 11-4 (4-2 ACC).
The Blue Devils will next take on Florida State on Sunday at 12 p.m. in Tallahassee.
