DURHAM, N.C.?Former Duke women's basketball three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selection Mistie Williams was selected third overall by the Chicago Sky in the Houston Comets dispersal draft, which was held on Monday by the WNBA.
Williams played in 78 career games for the Houston Comets before the franchise announced it suspended operations for the 2009 season. All players on the Comets' roster at the conclusion of the 2008 campaign were eligible for selection. Williams is coming off averaging 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds, while hitting 50.5 percent of her field goals in 32 games in 2008.
The Chicago Sky franchise registered a 12-22 overall record last season as it missed the playoffs.
A four-year letterwinner at Duke from 2003-06, Williams guided the Blue Devils to the 2003 and 2006 NCAA Final Four's and to the 2003 and 2004 ACC Tournament Championships. Over her career, Williams scored 1,409 points, had 800 rebounds and blocked 131 shots in 142 games.
