DURHAM, N.C. ? For the second straight year, Duke senior Christie McDonald has been selected to the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America team, after posting a 3.57 grade-point average and leading the Duke women's soccer team to back-to-back quarterfinal appearances in the NCAA College Cup.
McDonald, who is a product of Newnan, Ga., was one of the key members of the 2008 Blue Devil defensive unit that registered 13 shutouts, which matched a school record. The 5-8 defender started all 24 matches in 2008 and totaled a two assists.
Over her four-year career, McDonald played in 89 matches, started 76 games, had six goals, nine assists and 21 points. After moving to the defensive end as a sophomore, she guided Duke to 31 shutouts over the last three years.
McDonald was a finalist for the Lowe's Senior Class Award this fall, while also earning ESPN The Magazine All-District honors for the second straight year. She is expected to graduate in May from Duke with a major in English.
