With their 74-64 win over Temple on Jan. 8, 2008, at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, the No. 9 Duke Blue Devils improve to 12-1 on the season while the Owls fall to 6-7. Duke has won eight straight in the series, is 10-1 against Temple under coach Mike Krzyzewski and leads the all-time series 17-9. Temple coach Fran Dunphy is 0-3 against Duke, including 0-2 while at Temple. Duke is now 73-27 in its 100 meetings with Atlantic 10 Teams, including 11 straight.
Coach K is now 787-262 as a head coach in his career at Duke and Army. He moved into sole possession of sixth place on the NCAA all-time wins chart, breaking a tie with former Duke player Lefty Driesell. Coach K is third among active coaches. Immediately ahead in fifth overall and second among active coaches is San Francisco mentor Eddie Sutton with 798.
Taylor King led the Blue Devils with 15 points despite playing a team low 12 minutes. He hit 4-of-7 from the field, 3-of-5 from behing the arc and 4-of-4 from the line. He added three rebounds and an assist to his performance. King's 15 points in 12 minutes is the third fewest minutes played in Duke history to score at least 15 points. Phil Henderson scored 15 points in nine minutes vs. UAB on Dec. 13, 1986, and Christian Laettner scored 15 points in 11 minutes at Virginia on Jan. 7, 1989.
King leading the team with just 12 minutes played is the fewest minutes played while leading the team in scoring since Phil Henderson's game against UAB on Dec. 13, 1986, when he lead the team in scoring with 15 points in nine minutes.
King became the first player in Duke history to lead the team in scoring while also playing the fewest minutes. The only other instances where that occured were the five times in Duke history that the Blue Devils didn't make a substitution, thus meaning all five players played 40 minutes and that was the fewest minutes played for whichever player led the team in scoring. The last time Duke did not have a substitution was on March 7, 1969, when Duke upset No. 13 South Carolina to advance to the ACC Tournament final. Dave Golden led Duke with 18 points while tying the other four players with 40 minutes played.
Greg Paulus scored 13 points and dished out four assists. He was 8-of-8 from the free throw line, tying both his career high and the Duke season high (held with Kyle Singler). The eight made with no misses also ties the highest total for the season along with Singler and is a new career high.
Temple's eight blocks as a team is the most against the Blue Devils this year.
