Highs And Lows
- Duke held Virginia Tech to just 2-of-13 from three-point range. The two makes is a Duke opponent low while the 13 attempts is tied for the second lowest total for Duke opponents. The two triples is also tied for the lowest output by the Hokies this season.
- The Hokies 15.4 three-point percentage (2-of-13) is a Duke opponent season low. The previous low was 15.8 percent (3-of-19) from Pittsburgh at Madison Square Garden. The 15.4 percentage also ties the Hokies lowest output of the season, matching a 2-of-13 performance at Penn State on Nov. 28.
- Virginia Tech's nine assists is tied for the second lowest total for a Duke opponent and the fifth time this season Duke has held its opponent to less than 10 assists in a game. The nine assists is the second lowest output by Virginia Tech this season.
- Virginia Tech's .41 assist-to-turnover ratio (9-to-22) is the second lowest for a Duke opponent this season. Only Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 25 had a lower ratio (.39 ? 12-to-31).
- Despite playing a slowed-down tempo for the game's last 10 minutes, the Blue Devils scored 81 points against the Hokies, tied for the third most against Tech this season and 20.3 points above the Hokies average of 60.7 points against this season.
Duke Offense
- Nine Blue Devils scored four or more points, marking the third time this season that has happened.
- Duke led 42-38 at halftime and has led at the break in all 16 games this season.
- Duke didn't have a double-figure scorer off the bench for just the fourth time this season, but did manage 27 points, just under its season average of 31.0 points per game and outscored the Hokies 27-19 in that category. On the season, Duke has 22 double-figure scoring games off the bench.
- With its 17 point victory, through four games in ACC play, Duke has outscored its opponents by a league-best 16.3 points per game. On the season, Duke has outscored its opponents by an average of 20.7 points per game, tops in the ACC and third best in the NCAA.
- Duke had four players score in double figures with Singler (16), Gerald Henderson (12), Greg Paulus (10) and DeMarcus Nelson (10). Duke has 70 double figure scoring games from 10 different players this season.
- Duke recorded 15 assists to 12 turnovers, marking the 10th time this season the Blue Devils have had more assists than turnovers.
Duke Defense
- Duke held the Hokies to just 2-of-13 (.154) from behind the arc. Both the two makes and .154 average are opponent season lows this season. It's the fewest by a Duke opponent since March 4, 2006, when North Carolina was 2-of-9. The percentage is the lowest by a Duke opponent since San Jose State shot 1-of-12 (.083) on Dec. 31, 2006.
- Duke's opponents are now just 13-of-52 (.250) from three-point range in ACC play this season.
- Duke's opponents are now just 80-of-271 (.295) from behind the arc this season, the top mark in the ACC.
- Virginia Tech shot 23-of-56 (.411) from the field, marking the 16th time in 17 games this season Duke has held its opponent under 50 percent from the field. In 921 games at Duke, Coach K-led teams have held opponents under 50 percent a total of 691 times and Duke is 611-80 in those games.
- Duke forced 22 turnovers from the Hokies and only allowed nine assists, marking the 15th time in 17 games that Duke's opponents have had more turnovers than assists. It's also the ninth time in 17 games that Duke's opponents have had at least twice as many turnovers as assists.
Coach K
- Coach K is now 791-262 as a head coach, ranking sixth on the NCAA wins chart and third among active coaches. Eddie Sutton is fifth overall and second among active coaches with 799 wins while first overall is Coach K's college coach, Bob Knight, with 900 wins.
- Coach K now has 718 wins at Duke, eighth all-time for most wins at one school and third among active coaches. He is just one win away from seventh place Don Haskins from UTEP with 719 wins while Syracuse's Jim Boeheim is fourth overall and the top active coach with 764 wins as the Big Orange mentor.
- With 791 career wins in his first 33 seasons, Coach K is currently second on the NCAA's list of most victories in a coaches' first 33 season. He trails Dean Smith, who had 802 wins through 33 seasons.
- Coach K now has 791 wins in 1,053 career games and is looking to become the third-fastest coach to 800 wins based on number of games. Adolph Rupp (972) and Dean Smith (1,029) are already out of reach and Bobby Knight is currently third, accomplishing the feat in (1,102 games).
DeMarcus Nelson
- The senior scored 10 points, hitting on 4-of-11 from the field, and added four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- Nelson reached double figures for the second straight game, the ninth time in the last 10 games and the 14th time in 17 games this season.
- Nelson matched his season high with three steals, a mark he has reached four times this season, including two straight games.
- Despite just a 4-of-11 performance, Nelson is still shooting 50.6 percent from the field on the season (84-of-166) and 24-of-42 (.571) in ACC play.
- Nelson now has 1,081 career points and remains in 48th place on Duke's career chart. He is just 10 point behind current assistant coach Chris Collins, who scored 1,091 points from 1993-96.
Kyle Singler
- The freshman scored 16 points to lead Duke, shooting 6-of-14 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line. He added nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals to his performance.
- Singler's two steals matches his season/career high while his two blocks is the second highest total of his season.
- Singler's nine rebounds is the third highest total of his career while his four offensive rebounds and five defensive rebounds both rank as his second-highest performance.
- Singler has now led the team in scoring six times this season and led the team in rebounding six times. This marked the third time he has led the Blue Devils in both scoring and rebounding.
- Singler has three straight games scoring in double figures and 12 such games on the season.
- Singler has connected on at least one three-pointer in six straight games and in 11 of the last 12 games.
- Singler has connected on nine of his last 10 free throws over the past five games and is now 49-of-62 (.790) on the season.
Greg Paulus
- The junior scored 10 points, hitting 3-of-9 from the field, 1-of-5 from behind the arc and 3-of-3 from the line. He added three assists with no turnovers, one block and two rebounds.
- Paulus has now connected on 19 straight free throws and is now 29-of-33 (.879) on the season and 10-of-10 in ACC play.
- Paulus now has 59 assists to 28 turnovers on the season for a 2.11 ratio. In the last six games, he has 19 assists to just six turnovers (3.17 ratio).
- Paulus has now hit a three-pointer in 16 of 17 games this season and in 44 of 50 games dating back to the start of his sophomore campaign.
- Paulus broke a streak of three straight nine point games to get back into double figures. He has seven games scoring in double figures and another five games with nine points.
- In the last six games, Paulus has averaged 10.2 points, 3.2 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. He is also 23-of-24 (.958) from the line.
Gerald Henderson
- The sophomore scored 12 points, shooting 4-of-7 from the field, 1-of-2 from distance and 3-of-8 from the line. He added four rebounds and a steal in 30 minutes of action.
- Henderson has reached double figures in four straight games, including six of the last seven, and in 14 games this season.
- Henderson has reached the charity stripe a total of 18 times in the last two games (9.0 per game), up from a season average of 4.2 per game.
Taylor King
- The freshman scored nine points, hitting 3-of-5 from behind the arc in just 14 minutes, and added three rebounds.
- King has hit multiple three-pointers in nine games and three or more triples in seven of 17 games.
- King has scored seven or more points in 10 games this season.
