FRANKLIN, TENN. ? Looking for her second victory in three appearances at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship, Duke University junior Amanda Blumenherst owns a 36-hole tournament record of 134, after posting rounds of 66 and 68 at the 6,217-yard, Par 72 Ironhorse Course at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
In two rounds so far at the Mason Rudolph, Blumenherst had not made a bogey on her way to registering 10 birdies. A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Blumenherst leads the individual action by two strokes over Arizona State's Anna Nordqvist (136) and five shots over UCLA's Tiffany Joh (139). On Saturday, Blumenherst registered birdies on one, six, seven and 18th holes. She is tied for the tournament lead with 10 birdies and leads the field in par five scoring, 4.58.
In the team standings, the Blue Devils trail UCLA by 12 strokes as the Bruins own a 12-under-par, 564, through 36 holes. Arizona State is second (573) followed by Duke (576), Arizona (583), Oklahoma State (584), Florida (584), Southern California (586), Auburn (589), Georgia (590) and Purdue (590) in the top 10.
Senior Jennifer Pandolfi enters the final day tied for 18th with rounds of 72 and 73 for a total of 145. A product of Navarre, Fla., Pandolfi opened the day with bogies on the first two holes, but came back with a birdie on the 156-yard, par three No. 3. She then suffered bogies on the seventh and 13th holes before closing strong with birdies on No. 14 and No. 18.
After collecting an even-par 72 on day one, freshman Kim Donovan struggled on the second day with a five-over-par, 77. Donovan opened the day four-over-par through six holes, but made a birdie on the 409-yard, par four ninth to make the turn at 39. A product of Hopkinton, Mass., Donovan totaled a bogey on No. 11 and a birdie on the 14th to go along with pars on the first eight holes of the back nine. For the second straight day she struggled on No. 18 as she turned in a double-bogey. She enters the final day tied for 36th with a 149.
For the second consecutive round, sophomore Rebecca Kim opened the first nine holes in stellar fashion as she was even par as she made the turn on Saturday. Kim, who is from Tigard, Ore., finished with four bogies, three pars, one birdie and one double-bogey to conclude with a 41 on the back nine for a 77. She is tied for 52nd with a 151 through 36 holes. Kim is two-under-par on the front nine this week and nine-over-par on the back.
Sophomore Alison Whitaker turned in a 74 on Saturday as she was even par at the turn with two birdies and two bogies. Whitaker, a native of Melbourne, Australia, went through a rough stretch during holes 11-13 as she had two bogies and a double-bogey, but fired two birdies on No. 16 and No. 17 to close. She is also tied for 52nd with a 151.
Duke will tee off beginning at 9:45 a.m. (EST) on Sunday along with Florida and Auburn in the final round.
