Blumenherst & Lee Move On At North & South Amateur

PINEHURST, N.C.? Duke University juniors Amanda Blumenherst and Jenny Lee each advanced in the first round of match play on Wednesday at the 2007 Women's North and South Amateur Championship at the Pinehurst Resort. Sophomores Alison Whitaker and Yu Young Lee lost their first round matches.

Blumenherst, who is from Scottsdale, Ariz., knocked out Emma Jandel, 3&1, and will next face Whitney Simons on Thursday. Jennie Lee, who is out of Henderson, Nev., defeated Kelly Fuchik, 6&5, and will have to go up against top-seeded and defending champion Jenny Suh. Suh took out Lee's Duke teammate Yu Young Lee, 4&2, on day one.

In a surprising exit on day one of match play was Whitaker, who is normally a stellar match play golfer. She lost 4&3 to Maite Ortiz de Pinedo on Wednesday.
