SAN RAMON, Calif. - 24 Hour Fitness Worldwide, the largest privately-owned U.S. fitness chain and a health club industry pioneer, today announced the addition of former Duke basketball star Jason Williams to the company's Community & Business Development team.
In his new role with 24 Hour Fitness, Williams will help lead youth basketball camps throughout the country and work with corporate partners to plan and execute community development programs. “It's a thrill to have a person of such integrity and character join the 24 Hour Fitness team,” said Carl Liebert, Chief Executive Officer. “Jason has overcome tremendous obstacles in his career and we look forward to having him lead some exciting new community initiatives.”
Williams has had a distinguished career on and off the basketball court. He was a two-time first team All-America selection, a two-time National Player of the Year and a member of the 2001 Duke NCAA National Championship team. Williams graduated from Duke in three years with a degree in Sociology and was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft. Tragically, his NBA career was cut short after a motorcycle accident left him with life-threatening injuries in 2003. Now fully recovered, he is an inspiring and talented speaker, frequently sharing his experience overcoming adversity and returning to a life of athletics after his accident.
“24 Hour Fitness shares my personal commitment to giving back to the community, as well as my firm belief in the power of fitness and exercise to change lives,” said Williams. “I'm excited to be joining the team and I look forward to working on programs that will allow me to have a real impact on young people.”
