
Duke Notches 10th Win With 5-2 Victory Over Florida State

DURHAM, N.C. - The No. 21 Duke men's tennis team improved to 10-6 (3-1 ACC) with a 5-2 win over 27th-ranked Florida State on Friday afternoon at Ambler Tennis Stadium. The Blue Devils are undefeated on their own courts this season with a mark of 6-0.
Doubles action saw the eighth-ranked Blue Devil tandem of senior Joey Atas and junior David Goulet post an 8-4 victory over Ytai Abougzir and Maciek Sykut at the No. 1 spot, but Florida State would bounce back at the No. 2 position, as Jonathas Sucupira and Sam Chang defeated junior Alex Stone and freshman Dylan Arnould, 8-2.
With the doubles point coming down to the No. 3 match, the Duke duo of senior Peter Rodrigues and sophomore Kiril Dimitrov came through with a clutch 8-6 victory over Jean-Yves Aubone and Bradley Mixson to clinch the point for the Blue Devils.
In singles action, 72nd-ranked Atas posted a quick two-set victory over 119th-ranked Aubone at the No. 2 spot (6-3, 6-2) to put Duke on top, 2-0, but the Seminoles rebounded once again, as Sykut defeated 73rd-ranked Rodrigues at the No. 3 position (6-0, 7-6) to pull Florida State within one.
Goulet would then increase Duke's lead to 3-1, with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 win over Chang at No. 4, before 43rd-ranked Dimitrov clinched the victory for the Blue Devils with a thrilling 7-5, 7-6 win over 82nd-ranked Abougzir at the No. 1 spot.
No. 101 Arnould would then post a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win over Chris Cloer at No. 5 to give Duke it's final point, as freshman Aaron Carpenter fell to Mixson at No. 6 (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) to put the final score at 5-2 in favor of the Blue Devils.
Florida State falls to 11-6 (3-3 ACC) and Duke now leads the all-time series with the Seminoles by a margin of 21-5.
“I thought our guys were really competitive today against a tough Florida State team, “said Duke head coach Jay Lapidus. “We played every point with intensity and fire and we're very happy to come away with the win.”
The Blue Devils will host 35th-ranked Miami on Sunday. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
