COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 15 Duke women's tennis team defeated No. 71 Maryland, 6-1, on Sunday at the Tennis Center at College Park, as the Blue Devils improved to 9-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in ACC play. The Blue Devils defeated both ACC opponents this weekend by way of a 6-1 score.
Duke swept the doubles point for the second time on the weekend to head into singles play on top, 1-0.
The 27th-ranked tandem of senior Daniela Bercek and sophomore Melissa Mang defeated the Terrapin duo of Marianne Baker and Brooke Rogers, 8-2, at No. 1, while sophomore Jessi Robinson and freshman Amanda Granson combined for an 8-2 victory over Michal Amir and Maggie MacKeever at No. 2.
At the No. 3 spot, the Duke duo of freshman Elizabeth Plotkin and senior Kristin Cargill defeated Maryland's Elyse Steiner and Eleanor Peters, 8-4.
Singles action saw five Blue Devils come away with wins. No. 52 Bercek defeated 88th-ranked Baker, 6-7, 6-4 (1-0), at the No. 1 position, Granson was victorious over Steiner at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2), and senior Tory Zawacki picked up a two-set win at No. 4 over Rogers (6-0, 6-2).
At No. 5, Senior Clelia Deltour defeated MacKeeer, 6-2, 6-1, while Robinson posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Masha Senic at No. 6.
No. 59 Mang lost her second straight match, as Amir posted a 6-4, 6-3 win for the Terps at the No. 2 position.
Duke took the match by a score of 6-1, and now leads the all-time series with Maryland, 33-2.
The Blue Devils will continue to play ACC foes on the road next weekend, as they travel to seventh-ranked Clemson (March 31 - 11 a.m.) and sixth-ranked Georgia Tech (April 1 - 1 p.m.). Duke returns home on April 6 and 7 for their final home matches of the season versus ninth-ranked Miami and 15th-ranked Florida State, respectively.
