
Duke Falls To Clemson, 5-2, In Men's Tennis Action

CLEMSON, S.C. - The No. 17 Duke men's tennis team fell to No. 30 Clemson Saturday afternoon 5-2 in the Blue Devils first Atlantic Coast Conference match of the season. Duke falls to 7-6 overall and 0-1 in the ACC while Clemson improves to 19-5 and 2-2, respectively.
Duke won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead but lost five of the six singles matches. Dylan Arnould defeated Carlos Alvarez at the No. 5 singles spot for Duke's lone win by a score fo 6-3, 6-4.
The Blue Devils won the doubles point by claiming victories at the Nos. 1 and 3 slots. Joey Atas and David Goulet defeated Clement Riex and Ryan Young 8-6 at the top spot while Peter Rodrigues and Kiril Dimitrov defeated Rok Bizjak and Alvarez at the No. 3 spot, 8-6. Alex Stone and Arnould fell at the No. 2 double spot to Jarmaine Jenkins and Kevin Fleck, 8-3.
Riex defeated Atas at the No. 1 singles spot, 6-2, 6-4, while Jenkis defeated Rodrigues at No. 2 in a match that featured extra games in all three sets 7-5, 5-7, 7-6. Young defeated Goulet at No. 3 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Bizjak defeated Dimitrov 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4. Ned Samuelson fell to Fleck at the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-3.
Duke returns to action Sunday after traveling from Clemson, S.C., to Atlanta, where the Blue Devils will play No. 42 Georgia Tech in a 12 noon match.
