DURHAM, N.C. - Rankings for the Southeast Region were released last week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as four Blue Devil singles players and two Duke doubles tandems are among the December 7 listings.
Freshman Ellah Nze took the region's No. 2 ranking, while classmate Reka Zsilinszka is ranked No. 4. Sophomore Elizabeth Plotkin comes in at No. 9, while sophomore Amanda Granson sits at No. 18.
Nze went 10-3 in fall competition to begin her career at Duke, while Zsilinszka also had a stellar start to her collegiate career, posting a singles ledger of 16-3 in the fall. Plotkin went 12-2 for the first portion of the season and Granson went 3-4 in fall play.
In doubles, the Blue Devil duo of Granson and junior Melissa Mang rank second in the region, while Plotkin and Nze combine to form the 10th-ranked pair in the Southeast.
Granson and Mang posted a record of 7-2 this fall, a mark which included a 5-0 start to the campaign and the ITA Southeast Regional Championship doubles title. Plotkin and Nze faced only ranked opponents in fall action, as the duo went 2-1 overall, with all matches played at the Riviera/All-American Championships.
In the preseason national rankings, released in early September by the ITA, Mang is ranked 72nd while Plotkin sits at No. 102. Mang and senior Tory Zawacki combine to form the 22nd-ranked tandem in the country and Nze and Plotkin are 35th in the nation.
National team and individual rankings will be released next on January 29, 2008.
Duke will begin its spring campaign at the Michigan Invitational, which will take place in Ann Arbor on Jan. 11-13. The Blue Devils will then travel to Bloomington, Ind., to take on Indiana for their first dual match of the 2008 season (Jan. 27) and will host Iowa on Feb. 2 in their home-opener.
