Upcoming Event: Women's Golf versus Sea Best Intercollegiate on January 26, 2026

10/6/2007 12:00:00 AM | Women's Golf
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ? Led by a four-under-par round of 68 on Saturday by junior Amanda Blumenherst, the top-ranked Duke Women's Golf Team registered a team-best one-under-par, 287, and sits in second place at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational. The Blue Devils trail Tennessee by three strokes heading into the final round at the 6,285-yard, Par 72 Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Blumenherst, who collected five birdies over the final seven holes, now leads the individual action by three strokes with a 36-hole total of 139 with rounds of 71 and 68.  She leads Georgia's Alina Lee
(142) and Wake Forest's Natalie Sheary (142) in the individual action.
A product of Scottsdale, Ariz., Blumenherst didn't get going until the back nine as she totaled three bogies and two birdies on the front to make the turn at one-over-par, 37. On the back nine she totaled five birdies on nine holes without making a bogey. She is looking for the ninth career victory in three years with the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils have registered rounds of 302 and 287 for a total of 589, which trails Tennessee (586). Rounding out the top 10 is Georgia (591), Wake Forest (593), N.C. State (593), Auburn (594), Texas A&M (596), Vanderbilt (596), Tulsa (598) and Virginia (601).
After totaling a three-over-par, 75, on day one junior Jennie Lee came out and fired an even-par, 72, on Saturday and sits tied for 13th with a 147. A native of Henderson, Nev., Lee was solid all day as she notched a birdie on the third and a bogey on the ninth to go along with 16 pars.
Sophomore Alison Whitaker held a one-under-par ledger going into the 17th hole but a double-bogey dropped her to a one-over-par, 73, on Saturday. She owns a two-day total of 153 and is tied for 46th. Senior Jennifer Pandolfi continued her stellar play to finish with a two-over-par, 74, but it could have been even better. Pandolfi, who is from Navarre, Fla., was one-under-par going into the 16th but a double-bogey on the 361-yard, par four and a bogey on No. 17 dropped three shots. She enters the final day tied for 27th with a 150.
Duke freshman Kim Donovan continued her struggles on Saturday as she totaled her second straight round of 81. She is tied for 86th with a 162.
The Blue Devils totaled 15 birdies on the day but dropped seven shots on holes No. 16 and No. 17 to lead them being in second place.
The Blue Devils have won the Tar Heel Invitational 10 times over the 30 years it has been held and had their streak of nine consecutive wins broken last year as they finished third. Duke has won the title in 1988, ?97, ?98, ?99, 2000, ?01, ?02, ?03, ?04 and ?05. Eight different Blue Devils have won the individual title over the 29 years- Mary Anne Widman (1983), Sarah LeBrun (1986), Christine Casingal (1988), Jenny Chuasiriporn (1997), Candy Hannemann (1998), Candy Hannemann and Leigh Anne Hardin (2000), Kristina Engstrom (2001), Liz Janangelo (2002) and both Janangelo and Hardin (2003).
Duke will tee off on Sunday beginning at 9:15 a.m., in a shotgun start along with Tennessee and Georgia.
