EVANSTON, Ill.- The 10th-ranked Duke women's tennis team fell to 9th-ranked Northwestern, 6-1, in the Blue Devils' first dual match of the 2007 season on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats swept the doubles point, as the fourth-ranked tandem of senior Daniela Bercek and freshman Elizabeth Plotkin fell to 30th-ranked Georgia Rose and Alexis Prousis, 8-6, at the No. 1 spot.
The 29th-ranked sophomore duo of Jessi Robinson and Melissa Mang were defeated by Lauren Lui and Samantha Murray, 8-5, at No. 2, while junior Tory Zawacki and freshman Amanda Granson fell to Keri Robison and Nazlie Ghazal by a score of 8-5 at the No. 3 position.
Northwestern then took five of six singles matches to give the Wildcats a 6-1 win and a 2-0 start to its season.
Zawacki posted the lone Blue Devil win with a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) win over Lui at the No. 4 spot.
The Blue Devils begin their season 0-1.
Duke will return to the courts on Feb. 10 as they host No. 43 Indiana at 12 p.m. That match begins a three-match home stand for the Blue Devils.
