- Duke's Melissa Mang remains in action at the ITA National Summer Championships after winning two matches on Saturday, advancing to the round of 16.
Opening-day action saw Mang win both of her matches in two sets, as she defeated Jennifer Kelly (Cincinnati) and Allie Shafner (Michigan) 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively. Mang, the tournament's No. 1 seed, will now meet Kelcy Teft of Notre Dame on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. Teft, who is seeded ninth in the tournament, also posted two two-set victories on the first day of tournament action.
Mang was a 2006 All-ACC selection after a stellar freshman campaign helped the Blue Devils to a 20-8 overall record that included a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals for the 13th time in school history and third time in the last four years. The Metairie, La., native then became the sixth player in program history and first since 2001 to receive ACC Freshman of the Year accolades. Mang also earned a spot on the Academic All-ACC roster.
The ITA National Summer Championships, hosted by Indiana University, run through Aug. 16 with the championship match set to take place on Tuesday at a time to be determined. Complete brackets and results can be found at www.IUHoosiers.com, and will be updated at the end of each day.
