Gminski Selected For CoSIDA Academic All-America Hall Of Fame

WALTHAM, Mass. - Mike Gminski is one of five people who will be inducted into the CoSIDA Academic All-America Hall of Fame during the 19th Annual Induction, which will take place at the organization's annual conference July 5 in Nashville, Tenn.
Gminski was a three-time first-team Academic All-America and twice an All-America on the court. Gminski played for the Blue Devils from 1977-80 and led Duke to the 1978 Final Four, the 1980 Elite Eight and also helped the Blue Devils capture ACC Championships those two seasons, as well.
He is one of just two players in ACC history to earn Academic All-America three times and was the 1979 ACC Player of the Year, as well. He left Duke as the school's all-time leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker and still ranks high in all three categories.
The No. 7 overall pick in the 1980 NBA Draft, Gminski played in the NBA for 14 seasons, reached the playoffs eight times and finished with 10,953 points and 6,490 rebounds in 938 career games. His .843 lifetime free throw percentage is one of the best in NBA history for centers.
A Monroe, Conn., native who has called Charlotte, N.C., home for the last 14 years, Gminski has been very involved in the Duke Children's Hospital for the last eight years, serving as the Chair of the National Board of Advisors. Under his direction, they've raised over $38 million to build a new facility in Durham, N.C.
Gminski can also be seen on the ACC basketball television package as an analyst.
