DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke's Daniela Bercek was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-America team for the third straight year, the ITA announced Friday.
Playing Duke's No. 1 position all year, Bercek led the Blue Devils to a 20-8 record and a quarterfinal appearance at the NCAA team championships. The junior from Novi Sad, Serbia & Montenegro, advanced to the finals of the Riviera/ITA All-American Tournament in the fall and compiled a 25-8 overall record. In the spring, she matched her career best performance at the NCAA Championships, making it to the Round of 16.
Bercek ended the year with a No. 7 national ranking but was listed as high as No. 1 midway through the season, becoming the sixth player in Duke women's tennis history to notch the top national ranking.
The 2006 All-America honor is the fifth that Bercek can add to her resume, as she was named an All-America in both singles and doubles for two straight years while playing at UCLA. She is the 23rd All-America in Duke women's tennis history.
