Former Duke defensive end Phillip Alexander has signed a free agent contract with the NFL's Houston Texans.
Alexander, 6-4, 280-pound native of Bronx, N.Y., finished his Duke career in 2005. He played in 48 career games with 27 starting assignments and compiled 144 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 10 quarterback sacks and nine pass breakups. A two-year team captain, Alexander played two seasons (2001 & 2002) at outside linebacker before moving to the defensive line in 2003.
After recording 59 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks in 2003, he suffered a season-ending leg injury in week two of the 2004 season, but returned to the gridiron in 2005 for a fifth and final season of eligibility.
