GUADALAJARA, MEXICO- Led by junior Anna Grzebien, the top-ranked Duke women's golf team opened the California Guadalajara Invitational on Monday with a five-over-par, 293, and are two strokes off the lead entering the second round of action at the 6,200-yard, Par 72 Guadalajara Country Club in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Leading the competition is second-ranked UCLA (291) with Southern California (292), Duke (293), Georgia (294), Arizona State (297), Arizona (298), California (301), Ohio State (302), Washington (305), Stanford (308) and Texas (318) rounding out the field.
Grzebien, a native of Narragansett, R.I., led the Blue Devils with a two-under-par, 70, and sits tied for second. The reigning NCAA Individual Champion carded a 35 on both the front and back nine to finish with a 70. In the individual lead after 18 holes is Washington's Paige Mackenzie, who turned in a three-under-par, 69.
No. 1 ranked Blue Devil freshman Amanda Blumenherst carded a 73 on Monday and is tied for eighth. A product of Scottsdale, Ariz., Blumenherst posted a 36 on the front nine and then had a 37 on the back to close out her round.
Senior Liz Janangelo is tied for 16th with a 74, freshman Jennie Lee is tied for 30th with a 76 and sophomore Jennifer Pandolfi is tied for 35th with a 77.
Duke will tee off on Tuesday and Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. to close out the tournament with 18 holes each day.
