GREENSBORO, N.C. - The seedings are final for the 2006 ACC Tournament and Duke (27-3) will hold the league's top seed for the 16th time in the tournament's 53 year history. Duke will play the winner of Thursday's Miami (15-14) vs. Clemson (18-11) game, which will air at 12 p.m. on RJ Sports. The winner of that game and the Blue Devils square off on Friday at 12 p.m. with a regional and national telecast on RJ Sports and espn2, respectively.
The ACC defending champion Blue Devils have won a total of 15 ACC Championships including six in the last seven seasons. Duke has played three games at the tournament every season since 1998 and hold a 22-2 record in the tournament since the '98 version.
Duke has won seven ACC Championships as the tournament's top seed with the most recent championship as the top seed coming in 2000. Duke also won the tournament as the top seed in 1963, '64, '66, '86, '92 and '99. Additionally, Duke won championships as the No. 2 seed three times (1978, 2001, '02), the No. 3 seed three times (1988, 2003, '05), the No. 4 seed once (1960) and the No. 6 seed once (1980).
Overall, Duke has a 77-37 record at the ACC Tournament, the most wins of any team in the ACC and the second-best winning percentage. Duke and North Carolina are tied for most ACC Championships with 15 apiece and coach Mike Krzyzewski holds a 39-15 record at the tournament.
Duke has never face the Hurricanes at the ACC Tournament and holds a 5-3 record against Clemson with the last match-up in the 2000 first round, a 94-63 victory for Duke in Charlotte, N.C. In Greensboro, Duke holds a 27-15 record and the Blue Devils have five championships when the tournement is held there with the last coming in 2003.
