Duke broke a two-game losing streak in the NCAA Elite Eight with its victory over Connecticut Tuesday night, advancing to its fourth-ever Final Four and third in the last five years.
Duke improved its NCAA Tournament record to 34-12 and 33-11 (.750) under head coach Gail Goestenkors. The Blue Devils are 27-7 in their last 34 NCAA Tournament games.
Duke notched an NCAA-best sixth consecutive 30-win season, improving to 30-3 in 2005-06.
Alison Bales blocked four shots in the first half and finished with eight for the game, passing three people (Notre Dame's Ruth Riley, Connecticut's Rebecca Lobo and USC's Cheryl Miller) to become the NCAA's all-time tournament blocks leader.
Bales has 42 career blocks in the NCAA Tournament, and with 21 this year, she ranks second on the single-season charts, one shy of the NCAA Tournament record. With her eight blocks Tuesday, Bales set the Duke record for rejections in an NCAA Tournament game.
Bales notched her sixth career and fourth double-double of the season, collecting 15 points and 13 rebounds. The last time Bales registered a double-double was at Holy Cross Jan. 16 when she had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
As a team, Duke blocked at least 10 shots for the third time in the last four contests. In this year's NCAA Tournament, the Blue Devils have totaled 37 blocks, which ranks third in NCAA Tournament history.
Abby Waner, who hadn't registered double figures in scoring for five straight games entering Sunday's contest against Michigan State, did so for the second straight game Tuesday, totaling 10 points.
Waner moved into a tie for 10th place on the ACC freshman season records by hitting her 47th three-pointer.
With three steals, Lindsey Harding cracked the Duke single-season top-10 list, ranking ninth with 70 steals in 2005-06. Harding also moved into seventh place on the Duke career charts (205) and recorded three assists, climbing to sixth place at Duke for single-season assists.
With two made free throws, Mistie Williams moved into a tie for eighth place on the Duke career list, totaling 543 for her career.
Monique Currie moved into sole possession of fourth place on Duke's career steals chart with 224 career steals. Currie also collected 14 points, nine rebounds and two assists.
Despite the win, the Blue Devils earned a season-low 63 points. Their previous season low was 65 points at North Carolina on Feb. 25.
The Blue Devils matched their third-lowest first-half point total of the season with 28. Duke tallied 28 points in the first half against Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament March 3, 25 at North Carolina Feb. 25 and 20 at Boston College Jan. 14.
Duke has outrebounded its opponent in all four contests of this year's NCAA Tournament, including a 57-35 advantage Tuesday. After being outrebounded in three of four contests entering the NCAA Tournament, the Blue Devils have posted a 213-127 margin in the last four games.
