Duke's Mike Krzyzewski became the 11th coach in NCAA history to win 750 career games with the win over Wake Forest in the 2006 ACC Tournament semifinals. Arizona's Lute Olson was the latest coach to accomplish the feat earlier this season and has 758 career wins headed into action today while Ed Diddle is ninth on the NCAA list with 759 wins.
Duke's J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams each have 59 career victories against ACC competition, tied for fifth most in Duke and ACC history along with Daniel Ewing and Nick Horvath. Duke's Nate James is fourth on the list with 61 career victories. Additionally, Sean Dockery has 55, tied with North Carolina's Sam Perkins for 10th most in ACC history. Perkins is the top non-Blue Devil on the ACC list.
Redick and Williams have 113 career victories, tied for 14th in ACC history and tied for 13th in Duke history. UNC's Sam Perkins and Duke's Bobby Hurley are tied for 12th with 115.
Redick & Williams have 11 games played in their ACC Tournament careers, tied for fourth-most in Duke history with Nick Horvath. Shane Battier, Chris Duhon and Daniel Ewing head that list with 12 tournament games played. The duo has also started 11 games in the ACC Tournament, tied with Shane Battier for second most in Duke history behind Duhon's 12 starts.
Greg Paulus finished with a career high 18 points and tied his career high with seven rebounds against Wake Forest Saturday. Paulus also dished out five assists against just one turnover. In the two tournament games, Paulus has 10 assists against just one turnover. Duke's record for an ACC Tournament is an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.0. Grant Hill, 1992, and Steve Wojciechowski, 1998, each had 12 assists and three turnovers in three tournament games.
J.J. Redick finished with 20 points hitting six field goals, three three-pointers and was 5-of-6 at the free throw line.
Redick has the unique distinction of setting the same NCAA record against the same opponent twice in the same season. Against Wake Forest on Feb. 14, 2006, Redick surpassed the ACC and NCAA record of 413 career three-pointers held by Virginia's Curtis Staples. During last week's MAAC tournament, St. Peter's Keydren Clark caught up to Redick and currently has 435. Redick tied Clark in the first round game against Miami and with three against Wake Forest, now has the lead again with 438. Even more ironic, Staples was in attendance for Redick's record in each game, as well, as he was honored as Virginia's ACC Legend at halftime. Staples presented Redick with a game ball after Duke's win on Feb. 14.
Redick continued his dominant play against Wake Forest in his career. In nine career games, he has six 20 point performances and four 30 point performances. In the four regular season games the past two years, Redick averaged 34.0 points per contest and his low was 32 in that span.
Redick recorded his third 20-point performance at the Greensboro Coliseum this season and in those three games is averaging 26.7 points per game.
Redick is now averaging 26.4 points per game in five neutral contests this season.
Redick now has a Duke record 67 career 20 point games including 25 this season and 19 in Duke's last 21 games. Redick's 25 games this season is tied for second most in Duke history with Jeff Mullins (1964) and is just one game off current associate coach Johnny Dawkins mark of 26 in 1986.
Redick has scored in double figures in 118 career games including an ACC leading 34 straight games dating back to last season and in 67 of Duke's last 69 games dating back to his sophomore season. The 118 career games is tied with Mark Alarie and Christian Laettner for second most in Duke history behind Dawkins' total of 129 games.
Redick has now scored a Duke and ACC record 2,683 career points and on the NCAA chart, he moved into the top 20 passing Navy's David Robinson, who scored 2,669 points for the Midshipmen. Xavier's Byron Larkin is 19th on the list with 2,696.
Redick has now scored a Duke record 878 points this season and remains sixth in ACC history. North Carolina's Len Rosenbluth is fifth with 895 points in 1957.
Redick now has 362 career points in the postseason, eighth most in Duke history. Additionally, Redick tied Jason Williams with 60 three-pointer for most in a postseason career at Duke.
Redick set a new Duke record and has 199 career points in the ACC Tournament, passing Duke's old standard set by Art Heyman (193, 1962-64). Redick currently ranks third in ACC history and Wake Forest's Len Chappell holds the record with 220 points.
Redick now has 33 career three-pointers in ACC Tournament play, most in Duke history and second-most in ACC history behind Wake Forest's Randolph Childress.
Redick has now hit 48-of-53 (.906) free throws in ACC Tournament play in his career and qualifies for the ACC record book where he ranks second in history behind Georgia Tech's Mark Price, who connected on 46-of-50 free throws (.920). Redick would need to hit his next 10 free throws without a miss to overtake Price's mark.
Shelden Williams scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds and had a pair of blocks against Wake Forest in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament.
Williams has scored in double figures in 98 career games, including 29 this season and 14 straight.
Williams now has 1,209 career rebounds and passed Georgia Tech's Malcolm Mackey (1,205) for ninth most in ACC history. Wake Forest's Len Chappell is next on the ACC chart with 1,213.
Williams now has 404 career blocks and remains fifth in ACC and 17th in NCAA history. Vermont's Kevin Roberson is next with 409 career blocks.
After becoming the fifth player in ACC history and 17th in NCAA history to record 400 career blocks, Williams has the distinction of being the only player in NCAA history to record 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds, 400 blocks and 150 steals in a career.
Josh McRoberts scored 13 points and had eight rebounds against Wake Forest in a career-high 35 minutes. McRoberts recorded his 13th double-figure scoring game of the season and his sixth in the last eight games. McRoberts has now pulled down eight or more rebounds in nine games this season.
Lee Melchionni tied his career high with three steals against the Demon Deacons. He has reached that mark four times this season and five times in his career.
Duke has trailed at the half in four of its last five games. In the two ACC Tournament games, Duke has quickly taken the lead back in the second half. Against Wake Forest, Duke took the lead back with a pair of Shelden Williams free throws seven seconds into the half while against Miami Friday, Duke trailed by six points before Greg Paulus and DeMarcus Nelson hit two three-pointers in the first 24 seconds of the second half to tie the game.
