DURHAM, N.C. ? The Big Break V: Hawaii had a very successful debut on Tuesday, Feb. 6 with the Duke women's golf program playing a large role in the first episode of the season on The Golf Channel. Former Duke golfers Stephanie Sparks is once again a co-cost, while Kristina (Engstrom) Tucker is one of 11 golfers vying for a chance to revitalize their golfing careers and be awarded the opportunity to play big-time professional golf against the world's best on the LPGA Tour.
Sparks, a 1996 Duke graduate, is co-costing along with Vince Cellini for the third time. A two-time All-America with the Blue Devils, Sparks also had a very successful amateur career notching an impressive list of wins including Women's Western Amateur Champion, Women's Eastern Amateur Champion, Women's North and South Champion, and West Virginia State Amateur Champion. After turning professional in 1996, Sparks joined the FUTURES Golf Tour before joining the LPGA Tour in 2000. Sparks' LPGA career was cut short after the 2000 season due to a back injury.
In addition to co-hosting The Big Break V, Sparks travels the world to host the network's popular lifestyle show Golf With Style.
Tucker, a 2003 Duke graduate, was a two-time All-ACC selection and won three tournaments during her career with the Blue Devils. After graduation she returned to Sweden and played on the Telia Tour. Tucker competed on the FUTURES Tour last year and advanced to the final stage of the LPGA Qualifying School before narrowly missing the cut. She married former Duke men's golfer Paul Tucker and resides in Pageland, S.C.
