DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's tennis team added two highly touted players to its roster for the 2007-08 season, as Reka Zsilinszka and Ellah Nze have committed to play for the Blue Devils, announced head coach Jamie Ashworth. Both Zsilinszka and Nze are dubbed as Blue-Chip recruits according to TennisRecruiting.net.
“We are excited to be adding both Ellah and Reka,” said Ashworth. “Both bring an extremely high level of national and international experience into our program and both have the ability to become top collegiate players.”
Zsilinszka, a native of Fayetteville, N.C., was the top prospect this year with recruiting rankings of first in the state of North Carolina, first in the Southeast Region and first in the nation. She is currently ranked No. 1 in the USTA Girls 18's rankings and No. 24 in the ITF Girls 18's rankings, and most recently competed in October's Jerry Simmons South Carolina ITF, where she was a doubles winner and singles quarterfinalist. In March of 2006, Zsilinszka was the singles champion at the USTA Spring National Championships.
Nze, a native of Delray Beach, Fla., currently ranks ninth on the national recruiting list, fourth in the Southeast Region and third in the state of Florida. She ranks 54th in the ITF Girls 18's and most recently was a doubles quarterfinalist at the National Hard Court Championships and a singles quarterfinalist at the National Championships in August of 2006. Nze also ranks 497th in the WTA rankings.
“Ellah and Reka not only have an incredible amount of potential on the tennis court but both also will make a tremendous impact on the entire Duke community,” said Ashworth. “The work ethic that they have showed over the last couple of years in trying to become the best players and the best students that they can be, will definitely carry over into their careers at Duke. We are fortuntate to be adding two extremely talented and motivated individuals and look forward to the start of their careers.”
Duke will be begin spring play at the Michigan Invitational, held Jan. 12-14 in Ann Arbor, with the Blue Devils' home opener set for Feb. 10 versus Indiana.
