DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke sophomore forward Jamal Boykin will be sidelined indefinitely due to a case of mononucleosis.
“We're going to try to have Jamal finish up the semester academically because it's at the end and then have him get home as soon as possible to recover,” said Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski. “We'll reevaluate his situation when they start the second semester.”
In helping the ninth-ranked Blue Devils to a 5-1 start this season, Boykin has averaged 1.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in 30 total minutes of play. His season debut versus Columbia on Nov. 12 saw him shoot a perfect 2-for-2 from the floor, grab five rebounds and block a career-high three shots while adding a steal and four points. In three games, Boykin tallied four points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
Duke returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 28, as the Blue Devils take on Indiana in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge at 9 p.m. (ESPN). The Blue Devils are a perfect 7-0 in ACC/Big 10 Challenge games with wins over Illinois (72-69 in 2000 & 78-77 in 2001), Iowa (80-62 in 2002), Ohio State (91-76 in 2003), Michigan State (72-50 in 2004 & 81-74 in 2005) and Indiana (75-67 in 2005).
