PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. - The Duke duo of senior Daniela Bercek and freshman Elizabeth Plotkin picked up two wins on Wednesday to qualify for the main draw of the 2006 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, held at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
The 25th-ranked duo of Bercek and Plotkin defeated 38th-ranked Diana Srebovic and Lolita Frangulyan of Florida (8-6) and 45th-ranked Anna Lubinsky and Nicki Mechem of UCLA (8-2) on the final day of qualifying to advance to the main draw of the prestigious championships. The two are set to compete on Thursday at 10 a.m. CT (1 p.m. ET) versus an opponent to be determined.
Also in doubles qualifying action on Wednesday was the 46th-ranked team of Jessi Robinson and Melissa Mang. The two upset 19th-ranked Alex McGoodwin and Elizabeth Lumpkin of UCLA (8-4) in their first match of the day, but then fell to Audrey Banada and Romy Farrah of Miami (8-3), coming just short of qualifying for the main draw.
The Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships is the first of three Intercollegiate Tennis Association national and singles and doubles championships of the 2006-07 season, along with the November 2-5 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships and the year-end NCAA Championships.
