DURHAM, N.C. ? The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) office released the bracket for the 2006 ACC Women's Soccer Championship on Monday morning with the Blue Devils seeded seventh and having to take on sixth-ranked and second-seeded Florida State on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the SAS Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C.
The 23rd-ranked Blue Devils enter the tournament with a 9-7-2 overall and 5-4-1 league mark and are coming off a 1-0 loss at 13th-ranked Wake Forest on Sunday to close out the regular season. If Duke would have won the match on Sunday, the Blue Devils would have finished second in the ACC, but with the loss Duke ended up tied for sixth with Virginia. Due to a tiebreaker, the Blue Devils were seeded seventh. The winner of the Duke/Florida State contest will face the winner of the third-seeded Wake Forest/sixth-seeded Virginia contest on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Florida State owns a 13-2-3 overall mark and concluded the ACC with a 5-2-3 record. The Seminoles concluded league play with a 0-0 tie versus Clemson on Oct. 28.
The contest on Wednesday will mark a rematch of the Oct. 22 contest when the Blue Devils defeated the Seminoles, 3-1, in Durham, N.C. on senior day. Duke leads the overall series with a 7-3-2 overall record.
North Carolina earned the top seed in the tournament and will face eighth-seeded N.C. State on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. Fourth-seeded Boston College and fifth-seeded Clemson will play in the 2:30 p.m. contest, while Virginia and Wake Forest will play the 8:00 p.m. match to close out the day.
Duke owns a record of 11-18-2 in ACC Championship play but has advanced to the semifinals each of the last four years.
