Hello everyone!
While Ali has been doing such a wonderful job with the blogs, I decided it is about time that you hear about the life of a Blue Devil from the guard's perspective!
As almost everyone knows by now, practice officially started about 10 days ago. We had a pretty good preseason, but it was definitely time to start moving towards the actual season. We are a lot better conditioned as a whole this year, although I have the feeling Coach G is not exactly convinced of that because we did quite a few sprints yesterday at practice!
Or maybe that was for all those turnovers I had...yeah, that was probably it, oops! Anyway, we are starting to put together our offenses and defenses and everyone is catching on pretty quickly. I remember how hard it is as a freshman to learn entirely new offensive sets and defensive concepts; Joy and Bridgette are doing awesome though.
The day that we started our first practice, Coach G surprised everyone with an invitation for her to cook dinner for each of the classes one night at her house. She said she would make whatever we choose. Now I have never experienced Coach G's cooking, so the sophomores are contemplating putting her to the test and having her make something similar to what you would find at a five star restaurant, or perhaps not take the risk and go with something you might find in the frozen-dinners section of the grocery store. I am willing to go with the risk Coach G, if you are such a perfectionist on the court; I am guessing that obviously carries over to the kitchen!
Two weekends ago we had two of our recruits in town, Krystal Thomas and Jasmine Thomas. (Hey Guys!!) They have both already committed and we cannot WAIT to have them out here; if that weekend was an indicator of how much fun we will have with them next year, it is going to be yet another great freshman class.
I absolutely love our class of '07 already, and this weekend was so much fun with the minor detail of about two hours when I got talked into something I would otherwise not have done if it wasn't for the fact I was with our team.
So for those of you who don't know, my birthday is on Halloween. While that should mean that I love the scary parts involved with the holiday, on the contrary I am one of the biggest wimps in the entire world. Someone had a bright idea of going to see the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. I would like to think I can hold my ground against freshman, let alone pre-freshman, but somehow I was convinced that it would be “fun” to be absolutely petrified for about two hours.
Let me tell you, it was a blast. (And for those of you who don't know me, I tend to be very sarcastic at times, and that last sentence is a perfect example. Right, Nish?) I think Brittany's right arm is permanently bruised from my not so gentle grasp, and her right eardrum is probably a little damaged as well from the screaming too. Sorry Britt, what are teammates for though??
While I was pretty much on top of Brittany's lap for the majority of the movie (looking pretty pathetic), Nish was mocking the movie the entire time, almost laughing. I was almost crying. Krystal tried to act all tough, seeing as how she was the one who convinced me to go, but Krystal, don't think I missed it when you flinched when the chain saw man jumped out from behind the backseat! I couldn't see how the rest of the row reacted to the movie; partly because my face was buried in Brittany's shoulder...maybe I should have been born on Easter or something instead.
Well I hope everyone has a great week, and we cannot wait to see familiar and new faces at our games starting up in November. Until next time...
